Today's work
To finish the back of the album cover i will change the font of the title of the songs as this doesn't suit the theme and looks unprofessional.
To finish the CD i need to change the background colour to white.

Progress
Today I air brushed the front cover image to brighten his eye using this tutorial:
Today I also started to place the title and subtitle of the album onto the front cover, when doing this I used similar fonts to my mock ups.

progress
Today I picked the photo I will use for my front cover of the album, taking into consideration the audiences feedback.
I chose this the feedback shows these close ups are engaging due to the direct mode of address, the half face was inspired by my case study Rae Sremmurd for their album Sremmurd life. This also fits to the conventions of rap as he is wearing diamond earrings showing wealth. He is wearing a black hat and du-rag as well as a black bomber jacket the colour black makes it easy to decide what colour scheme I want as black goes with a lot of colours.
This is the original picture, using a app on my phone called Light room cc I started to edit the picture. I aim was to:
-Make the artist skin tone even
-Mae his eye white
- Make the back drop white/ Grey to see which suited better
Here I changed the exposure to negative to make it darker as well as the contrast and highlight. I didn't add any undertone colours as I wanted it to look monotone.
This is the draft of using the editing app:
After getting this, I still wanted to play around I wanted his face to e more bright to attract the audience more whilst keeping the background dark.
Here I did the opposite, increasing exposure and moving the highlights further along. I also added a tint of colour in attempts to make the star more golden as the connotations of it that I spoke about in my case studies.
This is my second draft of the same image using Lightroom cc:
After saving both versions I showed

photoshoot feedback
We asked a range of people who fit the demographics of or rap genre. We did this as it will give us a accurate representation of our target audience and their view to validate this we made charts (using info gram)which u can see down below where their answered yes and no agreeing and disagreeing to the views. Letting us make the album covers, CD and posters be more attractive to be successful.
The Questions
1) What picture(s) caught your eye and why?2) What pictures do you feel is not suitable for a rap album cover, CD and poster?
3) Using photo-shop / special effects how do you think we should improve the images?
4)What picture most relates to the word addict and its connotations of of addicts ?
5) What do you think of the pictures we have picked out?
6) Any other feedback you would like to give?
photoshoot
The photo shoot took place at a later time than the intend time which was 3:00, so we had less time to take a lot of pictures. we had around 50 shots but we only uploaded 34 pictures as they was in focus (strong depth of field ) and they were not slips of the star. We also had not had a camera lesson since we was taught at AS as well as how to use the lighting equipment so I made sure to read over my AS notes on that lesson. Before the actual shoot my partner and I took some practice shots and here is a small sample of them.
When we first got the camera the exposure was too dark so we brightened that up, this was shown in the forth picture as you will see in in the picture below this as to show the dark side of the connotation addicts. After that we put it up too high which is shown in the third image and we used the flash of the lights we put the number on three. Next we was playing around we found out how to turn all the white bits to orange we liked the concept of this despite not planning it. Finally we got the right balance changing the white balance to shade, putting the exposure down and these pictures in the first two.
The photos that my partner and I were looking at potential images for the front cover of the album we liked them because

Case studts on posters
This is a poster for the UK rapper called Tinie Temper, which is premoting the release of his single Frisky.
Framing: The artist is placed in the middle of the landscape poster, which is where people first look to. It is a close up shot of him with a background made though editing on a software like InDesign and Photoshop. The name of the artist and single is in the same font on the top left hand side of the poster with the featuring act just below that in a different font and size (featuring is the smallest font), but they are the same colour to make sure they all stand out to a certain degree against the background. The fots are unique but still readable. There is a strap line like towards the bottom of the poster, which contains information on the date of release and the website to find out more information. Below this there are two logos one i presume is the record label.
Body Language:
Lighting: There isn't as much of a colour scheme there are two main colours which are green, orange and black. The colour green connotes harmony, freshness and symbolizes money which could mean that to make money is one of his goals. The colour orange connotes creativity, determination, and success as the colour is similar to gold. To the human eye, orange is a very hot colour, so it gives the sensation of heat, which imply that he is hot in rap terms which means they h is good lyrically
Airbrush/effects: They have used lots of special effects to make it look like stardust around the artist to make it as if he is glowing which could show him to look more angelic or could suggest being special and out of this world.
Representation of star: The star is wearing glasses which could of been used to make him seem cool, in addition to this he appears to be looking over his shoulder which could show that he is a person of power or obtains power as he may be in high point in his career and above most UK rappers. This idea is supported through the colour of his costume and lasses which is black, a colour that symbolizes power and dominance.
This is another promo poster for the album Kilt 3 for a artist called I am Su.
Shot type: The poster has a mid shot showing the stars costume but cut's off half of his face. By doing this they are stripping the star of their complete identity allowing the audience to imagine who it is or could be and for targeted audiences it allows hem to picture them-self in that position. This idea could be supported by the fact that the photo was at eye level which could suggest that the star is on the same level as the audience which represents I am Su as grounded and humble despite his success, that of which is shown through his gold jewerlly.
Body language:
Despite the star facing towards us, his body language is closed as he has his arms crossed over his chest, this could be a indication of either he is relaxed or that he is hiding something which could be true as he is hiding his identity and this creates mystery for the audience (forcing them to think if he will reveal what he is hiding in the album, which encourages them to purchase the product), which will drag them in.
Costume:
His costume is full demin and a white shirt, he also has gold necklace and bracelet and grills (gold teeth) this makes it easy to identify the advert as a advert for a rap video.
Framing:
The star takes up 2./3 of the poster. His finger is that points to his name which would help people who don't know the artist figure out who the star is I am Su, However the writing is hard to read when you do not know the name of the artist, despite this it is different which makes it more memorable. This is the first thing you would look at when you the writing as it is the biggest font and most "out there". The fact that the name is in top centre of the poster shows its importance or may eve symbolise the artist position.
the rest of the text is in a smaller bolder more eliedgable font where it states that the album is coming soon but does not have a date, below that in a font that is not bold and slightly smaller font they have the features of the album. this is common so I will remember to do this for my promo poster.
Lighting:
The lighting is quite bright which gives a positive vibe to the poster making it easier for people to notice it and be attracted to it.
Airbrush/effects:
The creators gave the poster a filter that makes the image looked creased, which is unique and as it is only on him and not the whole poster which could represent that he is not perfect and like others have imperfects which links to hen I said earlier about his representation as being humble.
Shot type:
This is a close up/mid shot of the star allowing us to see just below his shoulder allowing you to see some of his costume and the logo on his hoodie. This shot was taken at a slightly tilted up this could represent him being above other rappers. The star is making direct eye contact with the lenses connecting with the audience.
Body language: His body language is open as he stands at a angle, suggesting positive thought and feelings towards the audience making them feel welcome to come and look at the poster.
Body language: His body language is open as he stands at a angle, suggesting positive thought and feelings towards the audience making them feel welcome to come and look at the poster.
Framing:
The artist is not cantered in the poster but is paced to the left hand side of the poster to make space for the information which is presented in a listing starting with the artist name in pink and a unique font which shows he is the most important part of information or representing the height of his position in the rap industry. There are only two fonts used on this poster as well as showing the platforms the albums are on which are Spotify and Itunes, therefor even people who can not read well can identify the meaning of the poster.
Lighting:
There is a three colour colour scheme which is black, white and pink. This is unusual colour to use in a rap advert as rap is a genre which is male dominated and so it considered masculine/ Alpha Male and society labelled the colour pink a "girl" colour which is deemed feminine, this contradicts the genre of rap. They could have of done this to attracts a new type of audience that are female or just more feminine people as the monotone colours make the pink stand out which would attract these types of people attention. Furthermore they could have of done this to make it unique as unique things stand out and are more memorial, meaning they will remember the artist has a new album that has been released. Or this could just be sending a message to the masculine males that it is okay to have feminine elements e.g crying is seen as weak etc.
There is a spot light shinning on the centre of the artist face, neck and chest. the fact his face is lit is to draw attention to it his face. the black drop is black so you can not see the shape of the artist, this makes it hard t distinguish the artist from the background as there is no line, this could be symbolic connoting that he is still growing as a person and there are no limits.

Photoshoot Time
My partner and I discussed the actors date of availability which was Thursday so we booked the studio for when we was both free on Thursday which was 3:00 PM, as we shared a media lesson, where we are allowed to leave to do the photo shoot.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Camera: We aim to have a shot of at least one of every shot type and use a variety of angles. As well
as this I would like for the star to have a different stances and where he stands as this would be useful for the back of the cd cover. We will only pick three as form research we found that most CD's and promo adverts are the same image.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Location: As choosing the studio we have decided we want a white backdrop as it will be easier to create more colour schemes ( as we still haven't decided on one) and we can edit it on Photoshop if needed.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Costume: We want the star to wear all black, we do not want him to wear a track suit as in the pitch feedback our peers said that it looks like a Adidas advert.
-------------------------------------------------
props: Gold Jewellery which contains grills, necklace and bracelet, this keeps within the rap theme making I easy for the audience to identify the cover as rap. This will also represent him as a wealthy man with success, which is how most rappers want to be portrayed. The second prop we want to use is a beanie hat too as this is also worn by many rap artist. our final prop we would like to use is a straight jacket, however as we have arranged the date on short notice if we were to order it from the website we was looking at it may not come in time, so we may have to find something like it for example have a white jacket and tie a belt around his arms which will be crossed to make it appear like a straight jacket.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
lighting:
we may not know the colour scheme yet but, we know that we would like for it to be dark therefor we will have dim lighting but not dip to the point you can barely see the stars features.

Mocks of album
Measurements of CD cover:
For PhotoshopFront cover & Back Cover:
139mm x 125mm
Spine:
6.5mm x 125.5mm
How I made my Album Cover:
First, I customized the size of the page so that the width was longer than the
height, in order to mimic the actual measurements of a album cover. Then I
split the page in half and drew a black line down the center, to imitate
the spinal cord of a album. After picking the image i wanted for the front album cover I placed the picture onto the left-hand
side, also I did this with the right hand side.
Font:
I spent time looking at the different fonts to see which one suited the theme and genre of Rap, which is bold and straight. i wanted to have bigger than the other in two seperate different fonts.
Why I picked the images i did:
Framing:
Representation of star:
How I tried to attract my audience:
Effects:
I
spent time toying with the fonts. I wanted to settle for
one that helped connote the genre and fit inline with the style of the
cover and song name.
I also googled 'what type of fonts rap CD's and posters used', so that it would appear more realistic.
I finally settled for 'merky records'.
Here I
added the 'Parental advisory, explicit content' logo, as that's what CD
covers tend to include, as a warning to younger viewers of some of the
themes it contains.
